Physiotherapists are the most recommended health professional by GP’s Australia wide. They can provide assessment, treatment and management plans for a wide variety of injuries and conditions. Physiotherapists can also assist in maintaining general health and wellbeing during all stages of life ranging from infants, children, adults, pre-natal and post-natal women, people with disabilities, and the elderly.
Physiotherapy services range from injury treatment and prevention with tailored and specific rehabilitation plans, individualised to the client, their general fitness, stage of life and their injury or condition.
“Doctor’s save lives, but Physiotherapists make it worth living by enhancing quality of life”
As first contact practitioners, you do not need a referral to see a physiotherapist. However, Physiotherapists will often liaise with other health professionals including GP’s, Specialists, Occupational Therapists and more to work as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to provide holistic, evidence based and client centred care to individuals, especially when dealing with chronic injuries/conditions and/or multiple comorbidities.
In cases like these, you may be able to speak to a GP about obtaining a Medicare funded chronic disease management plan. When approved by GPs, these plans provide eligible clients with five free Allied Health consultations, which are funded under the Medicare Benefits Scheme.
